Mission

The Neighborhood Early Childhood Center's mission is to nurture and enrich the lives of all children during the formative years of early learning and create a solid foundation for them to flourish, thus ensuring that they become life-long learners.

Philosophy

The Neighborhood is a licensed preschool/daycare where children 6 weeks to 5 years of age can develop self confidence and the desire to learn and explore through play. Our children participate in activities which encompass the eight domains set forth by the State of Maine learning guidelines. We maintain a healthy balance between teacher directed and child directed activities and utilize learning/play stations to limit the amount of time spent in a large group. We strongly believe that a child can experience the joy of discovery and build self-confidence and socialization skills through play. We encourage children to build upon their problem-solving techniques and use their imaginations and creativity in their daily projects.

The Neighborhood believes that communication between the parents/guardians and the staff is vital in providing the highest quality process. We encourage families to actively participate in our programs by welcoming them to read stories, share special snacks, accompany us on field trips or enjoy watching the continuous learning which is happening throughout the classroom.

Graduates of our program take with them a love of learning. They are self-confident, capable of forming friendships, express themselves in a positive manner and continuously seek answers. We give them the skills necessary to succeed in furthering their education.

Goals

  2. To provide a quality service for children with varying abilities and typical developing needs in an inclusive setting.
